Bay or Bow?
The first thing you should know is the difference between a bay window and a bow window. While both provide plenty of glass area and a great view, they are assembled in different ways.
A bay window is a combination of three or more “lights” or panels, with the largest panel in the center and aligned parallel to the side of your home. The flanking window panels are angled to connect the center panel to the home. The number of side panels dictates the angle at which the bay window extends outward. The center panel is generally fixed, while the side lights can be fixed or comprised of double hung or casement-style windows.
A bow window is also made up of multiple lights, typically all of the same size. The panels are arranged in a gentle curve, radiating out from the side of your home to create an elegant arc. Each of the lights is usually a casement window, which can be opened to allow in fresh air and cooling breezes.
We can help you choose which design is best for your home’s architectural style.
